What Situations Require Emergency Care?
Below are examples of emergencies that require immediate veterinary attention:
- Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
- Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
- Fractured bones or severe lameness
- Your cat or dog have ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Seizures and/or staggering your dog or cat has
- Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
- Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
- Injuries to the eye(s)
- Heat stress or heatstroke
- Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
- Unconsciousness
What to do if Your Animal is Having an Emergency
Stay Calm - Try to remain calm and be extra cautious around your pet. Pain can lead even the most loving dog or cat to react negatively toward a person trying to help.
Call Ahead - If your pet needs urgent care during our regular business hours, please call us immediately. We’ll do our best to accommodate them as quickly as possible. If we’re unable to see your pet, we recommend visiting the 24/7 emergency hospital listed above.
