Cat & Dog Wellness Exams
Importance of Routine Checkups
Regular wellness exams are critical to helping your furry friend maintain good long-term physical health.
When combined with regular vaccinations and preventive care and proper nutrition, routine physical checkups help to give your cat or dog their best chance at excellent lifelong health.
During exam, your veterinarian has the opportunity to detect potential health concerns early, making treatment more effective and manageable. They may even be able to prevent the condition from becoming a problem altogether.

What to Expect During an Exam
Your veterinarian will perform a comprehensive physical assessment of your dog or cat during their regular checkup, allowing them to evaluate your four-legged friend's health status thoroughly.
They will also check whether your pet is due for any routine vaccinations or preventive care.
Once the exam has been completed, your veterinarian will take time to discuss any concerns they may have about your pet's overall health and talk to you about their nutritional requirements.
Health assessments at our veterinary hospital in Omemee typically include an examination of each of the following elements of your cat or dog's health:
-
General Condition
Your pet's general demeanour and physical condition can provide vital clues to their overall health. How they stand and walk, their level of alertness, and whether they are a healthy weight for their size are all important indicators of overall health.
-
Coat & Skin
During your pet's checkup, your veterinarian will examine their skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff, or abnormal hair loss.
-
Face & Head
Your pet's checkup will include an examination of their eyes, ears, and nose. Your veterinarian will look for any abnormalities or unusual discharge in these areas.
-
Teeth & Mouth
We will check the teeth and mouth for symptoms of oral health concerns such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease to help determine if you pet requires dental care.
-
Internal Health
Heart rate and rhythm, pulse, and blood pressure are essential elements of your pet's heart health. We'll check these to ensure they're normal. The lungs will then be examined for evidence of abnormal breathing.
Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
Setting your new puppy or kitten up for lifelong health begins with essential medical care in those critical first weeks. Our veterinary team will conduct a comprehensive physical exam, administer necessary vaccines and deworming treatments, and screen for intestinal parasites to ensure your new companion gets the best possible start.
Once your puppy or kitten's first checkup is complete, you will need to bring them in periodically for their required boosters.
Checkups for Seniors
As pets enter their senior years, regular examinations play an increasingly important role in ensuring their continued health. During a wellness exam for a senior pet, your veterinarian will be sure to watch for signs of age-related conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis or decreased vision.
Additional lab testing may be recommended in order to provide a more detailed diagnosis of a senior cat or dog's condition and formulate a targeted treatment plan.
